Intro to Improv is a workshop for movers of all styles and backgrounds to dive deep into the foundations of dance improvisation, through an experimental contemporary and postmodern lens. We will explore improvisational practices as prompts for warming up the body, researching movement possibilities, and improvisation for composition and performance. We will explore what makes an improvisation score, and how imagery, observation, sensation, and text can be prompts for our dancing. Practices will incorporate voice, movement, working in duets and small groups, writing, reading, witnessing, and discussion….with lots of dancing! Beginners to all levels welcome, and curiosity is encouraged.
