Contemporary Movement explores contemporary post-modern dance forms and improvisational practices. Building kinesthetic awareness, class begins with introspective somatic work inviting our presence and curiosity. Improvisation, floorwork, and uncomplicated technique phrases build into full bodied movement. Experiments improvising across the space, patterns, and phrasework bridge physical connections between the contemplative and theoretical concepts of class. Class explores joint articulations, fascia, organs, bones, muscle, mind, voice, imagination, energy, elements, and the unknown as sources for our inquiry and movement. We will practice noticing and witnessing, being moved and shaping space, expanding, changing, and being.
