Audrey Johnson is a queer Black mixed-race movement artist with roots from Detroit and Plymouth Michigan, currently rooting in Oakland, CA. She is a performer, teacher, facilitator, writer, and farmer. Audrey’s work is in deep nonlinear relationship to a lineage of queer Black feminist praxis and is committed to creating space for Black healing and liberation. 

‌Her performance work has been presented at FRESH Festival (San Francisco), The Arab American National Museum (Dearborn, MI), Sidewalk Arts Festival (Detroit, MI), FROLIC Queering Dance Festival and 2727 California Street (Berkeley, CA). She has taught dance classes at universities, dance studios, community centers, and online.

Audrey‌ ‌was‌ ‌a‌ ‌collaborator‌ ‌for three years with‌ ‌Harge Dance‌ ‌Stories‌ ‌under the artistic direction of Jennifer Harge (Detroit),‌ ‌and‌ ‌has‌ also‌ ‌worked‌ ‌with‌ ‌choreographers‌ ‌Biba‌ ‌Bell (Detroit),‌ ‌Dafi‌ ‌Altabeb (American Dance Festival),‌ ‌kickbal (San Francisco), and Stephanie‌ ‌Hewett (Oakland), among others.‌ 

‌Audrey is a 2020 Emerging Artist in Residence at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center, and has been in residence at 2727 California Street in Berkeley. Audrey‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌co-founder‌ ‌of‌ Collective Sweat Detroit, an organization holding spaces for dance and dance artists in Detroit. She ‌holds‌ ‌a‌ ‌BFA‌ ‌in‌ ‌Dance‌ ‌with‌ ‌Honors‌ ‌from‌ ‌Wayne‌ ‌State‌ ‌University and received her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher certification through Detroit Yoga Lab in 2017.
