teaching practice

I teach to facilitate experiences where people can connect to their physical existence in liberating, curious, and joyful ways. My teaching is deeply informed by Black queer feminism, and class functions as a space to re-imagine, re-invent, and practice how we exist together. I believe that movement heals and transforms, and that our survival depends on how we can be in our bodies. My teaching centers truth in the personal and shared experience of each class' participants.

Improvisation activates body systems, sensation, and intuition as impulse to move. Led primarily as a solo practice, guided by image and language based scores, Improvisation is for movers of all experience levels and abilities, and values agency, consent, and discovery.

contemporary forms activates contemporary, post-modern, and somatic movement practices through a Black feminist and queer lens. Class will consist of anatomic inquiry, improvised movement prompts and scores, gravity and spiral informed floor work, and momentum driven phrase work. We will use form to explore liberated physical function, and we will drive our danced inquiry with joy and pleasure.
